What Is Masseter Botox?
Masseter Botox, sometimes called jaw Botox or jawline Botox, involves placing Botox into the masseter muscles on each side of the jaw. Relaxing these muscles can reduce excessive contraction linked with clenching and grinding while gradually reducing prominent muscle bulk that contributes to a square or wide-looking jaw.
Because the treatment acts on muscle, the cosmetic change develops gradually as the masseter becomes less prominent. For functional concerns, reducing excessive masseter activity may also help lessen jaw tension associated with clenching and bruxism.
Masseter Botox for jaw slimming, bruxism, and TMJ-related symptoms is an off-label use in Canada.

Benefits of Masseter Botox
A Slimmer, More Contoured Jawline
When prominent masseter muscles contribute to a square or wide-looking lower face, relaxing them with Botox can gradually create a softer and slimmer jawline. This can support facial slimming and a more V-shaped jawline without surgery or added volume.
Masseter Botox works by reducing muscle activity rather than adding structure. If your goal is greater jawline projection or definition through added volume, jawline fillers may be a different option depending on your anatomy and goals.
Relief from TMJ Pain and Jaw Tension
Overactive masseter muscles can contribute to jaw tightness, soreness, and muscle-related TMJ discomfort. Botox can reduce excessive masseter contraction, which may help ease tension when overactive jaw muscles are contributing to the symptoms.
Not every source of TMJ pain comes from the masseter muscles. Your consultation includes an assessment of your symptoms and jaw-muscle activity to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for your concern.
Reduced Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)
Masseter Botox can reduce the strength of excessive jaw-muscle contractions associated with clenching and teeth grinding. Reducing this activity may help ease muscular tension and lessen the strain associated with repeated bruxism.
The treatment does not address every possible cause of teeth grinding. Your symptoms, medical history, jaw-muscle activity, and treatment goals should be assessed before treatment begins.

Am I a Good Candidate for Masseter Botox?
Masseter Botox may be worth discussing if you:
- Have a square or wide-looking jaw related to prominent masseter muscles
- Frequently clench your jaw
- Grind your teeth
- Experience jaw soreness, muscle tension, or tension headaches associated with clenching
- Want a softer or slimmer facial contour
- Prefer non-surgical jaw contouring with little to no downtime
Botox acts on muscle rather than bone or facial fat, so treatment works best when masseter size or activity is contributing to the concern. Your injector will assess your jaw, muscle activity, medical history, and goals before recommending treatment.

What to Expect from Masseter Botox Treatment
Masseter Botox is a relatively quick treatment that begins with an individual assessment and requires little to no interruption to your normal routine.
Before Treatment
Your injector will discuss whether yourmain concern is jaw slimming, clenching, teeth grinding, jaw tension, or a combination of these concerns, then assess your jaw and masseter muscles to determine whether treatment is appropriate.
During Treatment
Using a fine needle, your injector places Botox into targeted points in the masseter muscles on each side of the jaw. The injections are quick and generally involve minimal discomfort.
After Treatment
Most clients can return to normal daily activities after treatment. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising can occur around the injection sites, and results develop gradually rather than appearing immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Masseter Botox
What is masseter Botox used for?
Masseter Botox can address both cosmetic and functional concerns. It may reduce prominent masseter muscle bulk for a slimmer-looking jawline while also reducing excessive jaw-muscle activity associated with clenching, teeth grinding, and muscle-related jaw tension.
How long does masseter Botox last?
Masseter Botox is temporary. How long the effects last varies with muscle activity, individual treatment response, and other treatment factors. Your injector can recommend maintenance timing based on how you respond to treatment.
Is masseter Botox safe?
Botox has Canadian product monographs that describe its approved uses, contraindications, warnings, and possible adverse effects. Masseter treatment for jaw slimming, bruxism, and TMJ-related symptoms is not listed among the approved indications in the current Canadian BOTOX or BOTOX COSMETIC product monographs, so your physician should assess whether treatment is appropriate and discuss the expected benefits and risks with you.
Will masseter Botox affect my ability to chew or eat normally?
Masseter Botox is intended to reduce excessive muscle activity rather than stop normal jaw movement. Because Botox reduces muscle contraction, localized muscle weakness can occur, making appropriate assessment, injection placement, and treatment planning important. Tell your physician about any existing chewing, swallowing, or neuromuscular concerns before treatment.
Can masseter Botox help with teeth grinding and TMJ pain?
Masseter Botox may help reduce excessive jaw-muscle contraction associated with clenching and teeth grinding and may ease muscle-related TMJ tension or discomfort when masseter overactivity is contributing to the symptoms. Whether it is appropriate depends on the cause of your symptoms and should be assessed before treatment.
How much does masseter Botox cost?
Celebrity Laser & Skin Care currently lists Botox pricing starting at $10 per unit. The total masseter Botox cost depends on the number of units required and your individual treatment plan, so your total cost will be confirmed during consultation.
