Laser Skin Resurfacing vs. Microdermabrasion, which one is better?

Laser skin resurfacing Vs. microdermabrasion

When skin issues start to show, everybody is searching for the proper way to kill them and avoid the issues from getting to be acute. However, is microdermabrasion superior or laser resurfacing? In this article, we intend to clarify the contrasts between these methods.

What is microdermabrasion?

In microdermabrasion, the skin is gradually exfoliated; loss of dead skin layers stimulates collagen-producing cells in the skin. By stimulating these cells and making more collagen, the skin becomes firmer. The skin that has pimples and acne will gradually disappear, and the new skin will replace it without any problems. The short-term side effects of this skin rejuvenation procedure will improve over the next few hours. The interval between sessions and the duration of microdermabrasion is also determined at the discretion of the physician.

What is laser resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a skincare strategy performed by a dermatologist or physician. This includes using laser resurfacing to help advance the surface and appearance of the skin. Depending on your individual needs, your dermatologist may recommend ablation or non-abrasive lasers. Erbium is used for better lines and wrinkles, and other shallow skin problems. Both types of ablation lasers remove the outer layers of the skin. Non-abrasive lasers do not remove any layer of skin. These include multiplication light, pulsed color lasers, and fractional lasers.

Disadvantages of microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a completely non-invasive method that rejuvenates your skin without pain, bleeding, and scarring. But it also has drawbacks, which we will mention below.

  • It treats superficial problems: With the help of microdermabrasion, you cannot solve your deep skin problems.
  • This method cannot be used in hot seasons: Thinning of the skin due to peeling in hot seasons is a little annoying. It is better to do this in the cold seasons of the year.

Disadvantages of laser skin treatment

This method is more invasive than microdermabrasion. Disadvantages of this method include the following:

  • The pain: This method is associated with a lot of pain. Your skin should be numb while doing this procedure. Laser pain is due to the concentration of radiation in the layers of the skin.
  • Swelling, redness, and inflammation: Unlike microdermabrasion, which has a slight swelling, redness, and inflammation, lasers cause all of these problems at higher doses. The duration of laser treatment for these complications is long.
  • Sensitivity of the skin to heat and sunlight: Like microdermabrasion, this treatment sensitizes skin tissues to heat and sunlight. So, it is better to do laser skin resurfacing treatment in winter.

Comparison between microdermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing

So far in this article, we have tried to acquaint you with the different aspects of microdermabrasion and laser resurfacing. But which one is really better for our skin, microdermabrasion or laser resurfacing? The best answer will be given by your doctor, but in general, if you have skin with deep skin problems, it is better to use laser treatment. The laser penetrates deep layers of the skin and will solve deep skin problems. But if you have recently had superficial skin problems, the best method is microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion only treats the skin by exfoliating it so it will not penetrate deep into the skin. Laser is not very effective for skin lift, but microdermabrasion helps to firm and lift the skin. Complications after microdermabrasion are very superficial, while lasers skin resurfacing requires more time to heal.
