New year’s resolution to take care of your skin

Many of us traditionally marks the beginning of a new calendar year by compiling a list of resolutions or promises to ourselves. The point of doing anything, from learning a new skill to meditating and practicing mindfulness daily, is to improve one’s quality of life. The goal of having healthy, beautiful, and shining skin is within reach if you treat your skin with the care and respect it deserves. Realizing how quickly good intentions may be forgotten, we’ve compiled some of our favorite, simple skincare resolutions for the New Year.

New Year’s resolutions for your skin

Clean, healthy, and attractive skin will always be in style, regardless of the current beauty trend. If you care about your skin, now is the time to start your resolutions.

Moisturize your skin before bed and in the morning

Properly hydrated skin is healthy skin. Moisturize first thing in the morning to make your skin seem more natural. Moisturize at night to help your skin rebuild itself as you sleep by replacing the moisture it loses throughout the day. Keep your skin hydrated whether you have oily, mixed, or dry. Keeping the skin well hydrated promotes a healthy cell turnover and aids in the battle against the visible effects of aging.

Be consistent with cleansing

In order to maintain healthy skin, cleansing is an essential first step. Make a pact with yourself to keep a regular washing practice in 2023. To kick off the day on the right foot, wash your face with a product designed for your skin type first thing in the morning. When your skin is unclean, it is useless to apply lotion or cosmetics.

Do not forget the importance of exfoliation

The exfoliation process occurs naturally when the outermost layer of skin (the epidermis) is shed and replaced by younger, healthier skin cells. Even though this process occurs naturally, its efficacy declines with age, resulting in an accumulation of dead skin cells. Exfoliating regularly is as effective as skin resurfacing treatments such as microneedling.

Use sunscreens regularly

No matter the season or the climate, you should always take the time to properly apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. Don’t stop there, though. Daily sun protection measures should also include avoiding direct sunlight as much as possible (especially from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), seeking shade, and wearing long sleeves, pants, a broad-brimmed hat, and UV-blocking sunglasses to cover exposed areas.
